Uckfield late night shopping 2013

Uckfield celebrated Christmas in its usual sensational style on Friday evening when shops and business threw open their doors to excited shoppers.

And there was no shortage of entertainment - most it by the town’s talented young performers and schoolchildren.

Local radio station UckfieldFM hosted a lively roadshow and their sound stage in the middle of the High Street was the venue for the town’s primary school children to demonstrate their fabulous singing voices by performing a chorus of Christmas songs.

King’s Church transformed Elizabeth Gardens with a living nativity scene while Father Christmas joined forces with Uckfield Lions to greet children who had been good all year and listen to their present requests. Shoppers were tranfixed by the slick performance of Uckfield Dance and the whole evening was set to music from the town’s brass band.

Carvills once again displayed windows to die for, including a dining room decorated overall for the Christmas festival with fairy lights, a silver tree, elaborate table decorations and even a lifesize silver hare - remeniscent of the magical Waitrose Hare and Bare TV ad. For the artistically inclined Bridge Cottage hosted an exhibition by local artists.

There were hot chestnuts and mince pies galore and visitors agreed this was the finest Christmas festival ever - crowned by the weekend’s Tree festival in Holy Cross church.
