Uckfield Lions roar in to support good causes and sports pitch

Having had a dismal year, with many of their events cancelled due to really bad weather the Uckfield Lions were determined to get their classic car show on the road come rain come shine. Well no shine and the rain came again but the Lions put on this event regardless.

So on a very wet and dismal Sunday the Uckfield and District Lions Club Classic Car Run and Pig Roast took place at the Half Way House, Isfield .

The Uckfield Lions organize a Classic Car run in September each year as part of their fundraising drive for community projects.

The cars gather and set off on a trip through the surrounding wet countryside and  on their return enjoy a pig roast with the cars on display for everyone to admire.

Funds raised last year were used toward the purchase of a new horse drawn carriage

for use by disabled drivers for the Herons Ghyll Carriage Driving for the

Disabled Group, and a slide show of the new carriage is available for supporters to watch.

This year the funds raised will be divided to firstly assist with the costs of therapeutic

hydrotherapy for a disabled local youngsters and secondly, to help young people in the Uckfield PHAB group.

Thirdly, a donation was made to ‘Active Play.’ a club at Freedom Leisure in Uckfield

for young people with learning and physical difficulties.

Money was also given to the Lions Club’s own charity fund.

Uckfield Lions have also donated £10,000 towards the town’s all weather pitch campaign.

The money donated came from legacy donations given to them specifically to be used for the benefit of the local community.

This brings the long-awaited pitch a significant step closer and means players of all sports can practice and compete in all weathers.

In the past they have been hampered by the state of the town’s clay soil which waterlogs in poor weather meaning teams and individuals must travel to other pitches.

Campaign organisers hope this donation will mean the dream of an all-weather pitch can become reality to the benefit of sportsmen and women of all ages.
