Planning surgeries could be held in Uckfield giving free advice to businesses wanting to expand.
Commercial agent Chris Lawson told the town’s Chamber members last Tuesday (November 19) that this was one suggestion to come out of a meeting held last month with Wealden District Council representatives.
The meeting was held due to concern within the business community about the effects of a restriction on development within 7km of Ashdown Forest.
Chamber executive committee members and others with interests in the building industry attended the meeting with the council’s planning and development portfolio holder Cllr Ann Newton, the directory of environment and community services Nigel Hannam, and head of planning and environmental services Kelvin Williams.
Mr Lawson told a Chamber of Commerce members’ meeting, held at Newick Park Hotel, that similar surgeries were also to be held in Crowborough.
Mr Lawson also reminded members that a Judicial Review was due to be held in the High Court in February following a challenge from landowners about the council’s strategy governing development in the district until 2027.
The meeting at Newick Park Hotel, attended by 66 people, was chaired by Peter Gale, senior partner at Swindells Chartered Accountants, in the absence of president David Marshall, solicitor and director at Dawson Hart Solicitors.
The next meeting is due to be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Crockstead Farm Hotel, Halland, at 6.45pm. The AGM will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Pilgrim Hall.
