Unveiling plans for redundant court

Quora Developments Ltd will next week be holding a public exhibition to consult local residents and businesses on ideas for the former Magistrates’ Court building in Lewes.

The new proposals look to re-develop and regenerate this vacant building to improve the site’s image and what the town centre has to offer.

This will be achieved by providing new retail and leisure facilities on the ground floor, and a hotel – named at a Lewes Town Council meeting as Premier Inn – on the upper floors in a replacement building designed to enhance the Conservation Area.

Modern retail and leisure facilities will add to the vitality and vibrancy of the town centre during the day, and will enhance choice. Furthermore, it is hoped the hotel will encourage economic growth and encourage visitors to Lewes to stay overnight, and shop and eat within the town centre.

The development will help to provide around 60 new full and part-time jobs.

The exhibition will take place on Thursday, March 28, from 3-7pm and will be held at the redundant Magistrates’ Court site. Access will be from Friars Walk.

Ben Ellis, Director of Quora Developments Ltd, said: “The proposals provide for the regeneration of this part of the town centre, enhancing the town centre offer and encouraging day visitors to stay overnight. We believe this will not only increase footfall in the town centre but also help to support the local economy by increasing spend. Quora believe that the proposals will provide for a development which the local community can feel proud of.”
