Areas of Newhaven have been flooded after a storm surge in the early hours of Friday morning (December 6).

Part of britain were battered by a storm surge coming down from the North Sea yesterday (Thursday December 5) which saw hurricane force winds and the highest tide for almost 60 years.

The tidal surge in the Newhaven area was higher than expected - between 20 to 30cm - and resulted in between 50 and 100 properties in the Railway Road area being affected by flooding, as well as the closure of the railway line between Lewes and Seaford.
