Video: Rocks fall at Birling Gap cliffs after storms

Waiting for Video...

Storms have once again battered the county causing another rock fall at Birling Gap.

Gale force winds blasted the coast over the weekend and into the beginning of the week.

The heavy rain and strong winds combined with the ferocious waves caused rocks to fall from the cliffs at Birling Gap.

The Birling Gap steps have been closed since storms lashed the area and bought down rocks at the beginning of January.

Wealden District Council and the National Trust said the beach and the steps would now remain closed for the forseeable future until repairs can be carried out.

Express photographer Peter Cripps visited the scene on Wednesday where walkers struggled to stay on their feet as high winds battered the cliff tops.

People are being warned to avoid coastal areas during the storms.

The Met Office has now issued a further severe weather warning for the South East of England.

An amber warning for rain has been issued which is valid until Saturday morning.
