Views sought on plans to create a UNESCO site

Brighton & Hove and Lewes Downs Biosphere Partnership has launched a consultation on its bid for the area between the River Adur and the River Ouse to become a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

The launch was held at South Downs National Park, on the outskirts of Brighton at Hollingbury Golf Club and Hill Fort.

Biosphere Reserves are internationally recognised for their unique environments which bring together conservation and sustainable socio-economic development.

Chris Todd, chair of the Biosphere Partnership, said: “This is a great opportunity to do things better, building on the good work that is already being done here.

“This is not about creating more bureaucracy or stopping people doing things.

“ It will improve our quality of life and the local economy by getting different bodies to work together better.

“That’s why we hope people will back our bid for international recognition of our world-class environment. ”

The public is being asked to back the Biosphere bid by saying what they value most in the area and what improvements they would like to see.

To view the consultation leaflet and complete the questionnaire to have a say on the plans, go to the website www.biospherehere.org.uk.
