Warning: make sure you can vote
MAKE sure before the date of the upcoming General Election is announced that you have secured your right to vote – warns Wealden District Council.
Boundary changes approved three years ago for the forthcoming election will mean some residents will vote in a different constituency.
Charles Lant, Wealden electoral registration officerm said there was 'very little time' left to register to vote.
He said: "The time between the election date being announced and the last chance to register to vote or to apply for a postal vote can be a matter of a few days.
"If you are not on the electoral register, you won't be able to vote."
Changes approved by the Boundary Commission for England in 2007 mean residents of Heathfield, Cross in Hand and Five Ashes will be voting in the revised Bexhill and Battle Constituency.
They will be joining the residents of Herstmonceux, Ninfield and Hooe with Wartling, Pevensey and Westham who are already in the Bexhill and Battle Constituency.
The villages of Laughton, Arlington and Upper Dicker that had previously been in the Lewes Constituency, have now transferred into the Wealden Parliamentary Constituency.
The changes mean a reduction in the size of the Wealden Parliamentary constituency by 10 per cent to 75,000 electors, to meet concerns by the Boundary Commission about the size of the old Wealden constituency.
Electoral Registration forms were sent out to every household last
Autumn.
If you still have not registered or would like to apply for a postal vote, it can easily be done online by downloading a form from www.wealden.gov.uk or by asking Wealden Electoral Services to send you a form – tel: 01892 602417.
Phillippa Saray , the Electoral Commission's regional manager, said: "Sometimes people don't realise they need to re-register every year.
"If you have moved house since receiving your form and have not registered with your new details, you need to register now. Don't let anything stop you having your say on election day."
The 24 District Council wards which make up the new Wealden Constituency are: Buxted and Maresfield, Chiddingly and East Hoathly, Crowborough East, Crowborough Jarvis Brook, Crowborough North, Crowborough St Johns, Crowborough West, Danehill/Fletching/Nutley, Forest Row, Framfield, Frant/Withyham, Hailsham Central and North, Hailsham East, Hailsham South and West, Hartfield, Hellingly, Horam, Mayfield, Rotherfield, Uckfield Central, Uckfield New Town, Uckfield North, Uckfield Ridgewood and Wadhurst.
