A TEAM OF firefighters from Heathfield Community Fire Station have taken part in a sponsored skydive and raised £1,000 for the Fire Fighters’ Charity.
The event took place at Chiltern Aerodrome, just outside Reading, on Sunday, August 26 and the team, which included Firefighter Jason Bessant, Firefighter Tom Backhouse, Firefighter Cameron Maxwell, Firefighter Matt Emery and Crew Manager Matt Wilsher along with his son Toby, all took part in a tandem style parachute jump.
Team members were all accompanied by an instructor and jumped out of the plane at a height of 12,000 feet. Luckily everyone landed roughly where they were supposed to with no reports of injuries. Firefighter Matt Emery said: “The team all did really well. It was a fantastic experience and I’d highly recommend it. We are all really pleased we were able to raised money for The Fire Fighters Charity in the process.”
The charity is the UK’s leading provider of services that enhance the quality of life for serving and retired firefighters, fire personnel and their families. The charity has helped hundreds of thousands of individuals by providing world-class treatment and support services. It costs £9 million a year to run and with no government money they are completely reliant on fundraising.
