A LOCAL parish councillor has been elected to serve on the board for the South Downs National Park Authority representing East Sussex.

Councillor Jo Carr from Willingdon and Jevington Parish Council was given the post, and colleagues say with her farming and legal background she is ‘well placed’ to represent the county.

The authority has 27 members appointed from local authorities covering the park.

Parish councillors plus national members are appointed by the Secretary of State.

A parish council spokesman said: “We wish Jo well and look forward to hearing how the Authority progresses leading up to April 2011.”

The South Downs National Park Authority is the lead organisation responsible for promoting the purposes of the National Park, working in partnership with other local authorities and organisations.
