Woman in Black among the Bluebells

THE BLUEBELL Railway provided the backdrop for what has been dubbed the most successful British horror film since records began. The line between Sheffield Park and Horsted Keynes was the location for scenes in Hammer Horror’s The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe.

Location manager Chris Moore picked the railway because it was one of only a couple of period railways large enough to film on and close enough to London. He said staff had experience of film work and ‘were wonderful to work with’ adding: “All three of their stations looked absolutely stunning, providing the perfect setting.”

Daniel Radcliffe said: “The Bluebell Railway was a unique place, it can only exist in the UK, carefully nurtured and preserved brilliantly, it gave all of us working on The Woman in Black the opportunity for a spot of time travel.”

The film was a huge success in the cinema, set to continue with the DVD release this week. It tells the tale of a young solicitor (Daniel Radcliffe) sent to Eel Marsh Manor to deal with deeds. He not only has to deal with his own grief but also the mysterious woman in black and the chilling deaths of children when she appears
