JUST AS the evenings get darker and we hunker down in our cosy kitchens, a top Sussex event looms on the horizon to cheer us all up a little.

The 17th Bentley Weald Woodfair takes place from September 21-23 this year. More than 12,000 visitors are expected go along to the Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum near Halland and enjoy an event for the whole family.

From 9.30am-5pm more than 200 exhibitors will be showcasing the latest timber skills, sharing their passion for woodland and demonstrating traditional wood crafts - from tree tents to wood carving, from chainsaws to chisels, from willow weaving to charcoal making.

Children can climb trees, have a go in a dugout canoe or even make a tree fairy.

One of the new exhibitors this year is Brighton based designers Luminair who have created a futuristic looking tree tent.

They are showing their finished tent to the public for the first time ever at Woodfair. It will be suspended from the trees in the woods on Bentley estate. Visitors at this year’s Woodfair will be able to have a go inside it too. The team were finishing their build last weekend and the tree tend is being filmed for a Channel 4 architecture series to be broadcast in the Autumn.

A standard one day Bentley Weald Woodfair ticket costs £14 (adult;) £12 (senior;) £10 (children, three to five years;) £36 (family of two adults and three children) and free for under threes.

A two day Bentley Weald Woodfair pass costs £20 (adult;) £16 (senior;) £10 (child) and £50 )for a family of two adults and three children.)
