World premiere stars Sussex folk

Glyndebourne

Glyndebourne

More than 80 talented Sussex residents will appear on the main stage at the world famous Glyndebourne opera house on March 7 in the world premiere of a new opera called Imago.

The performers are part of a community cast of 90 amateur

performers from across the South East recruited via open

auditions.

Participants range in age from teenagers to those in their 70s and will perform alongside professionals on the main stage and in the orchestra pit in a project designed to develop their talent.

The oldest performer in the company is Brighton-based Albert Hall, 73, who said: “Having been an opera fanatic all my life, the opportunity to appear on the stage at Glyndebourne was just irresistible. The experience has changed my life.”

Imago centres on an online gaming world used as a therapeutic tool in a care home. An elderly resident named Elizabeth uses the game to create her own avatar, and in the virtual world falls in love with the avatar of a teenage boy.

The opera explores the importance of friendship and romance to people of all ages as well as examining the impact of technology on our lives.

Imago premieres at Glyndebourne on March 7 with further performances on March 8 and 9. Tickets are available now through the Box Office (01273 813813) or online at www.glyndebourne.com
