WRVS fund-raising fight back after burglary

MEMBERS of the WRVS Isabel Blackman Club in St Leonards have been overwhelmed by the support shown to them following a recent burglary.

A mean thief stole takings and trip money from the South Street centre - which provides social and recreational facilities for retired people - on Tuesday July 1.

Spokeswoman Sue Adey said: "Since then we have been working very hard to raise the money back for the WRVS.

"I would like to personally thank many local businesses who have kindly donated goods for a raffle including the Spar, Co-Op, Dellas Chicken,

YU Hairdressers, Adams and Jarrett, and La Collina Gardens, as well as Mayor Maureen Charlesworth who is donating her valuable time and many, many others.

"We have some wonderful prizes including a genuine Nodding Buster from the Paul O'Grady Show, a YU 20 hairdressing voucher, chocolates and wine."

The raffle will be drawn on the morning of Friday August 8 by the Mayor who will be giving a talk on her numerous duties and the history of the chain from 10.30am to noon.

The talk will include a cream scone tea and tickets cost 5 with all profits going to the "Burglary Fund".

To buy raffle or talk tickets or make a donation to the fund call into

the centre at 5 South Street (behind Boots in London Road) or ring 01424 717674.

Said Mrs Adey: "I sincerely would like to thank all those who have given so far, and that even includes very kind donations from service users and volunteers, and also thanks to those who may answer this call for help.

"We strive to offer a much needed service and refuse to allow this to set us back."
