Yard Sale in aid of baby Bobby's Flat Head Syndrome helmet
A MASSIVE Yard Sale is being held this weekend to raise money to buy cheeky tot, Bobby Foot, a special helmet to correct a skull deformity.
Bobby, who is seven months old, suffers from Flat Head Syndrome which has caused the back and side of his head to be noticeably mis-shapen.
Last month the Observer reported on similar fundraising for another local sufferer, Jesse Poni, who is now wearing his helmet, fitted at a private London clinic at a cost of 2000.
Bobby's parents, Rachelle Dobinson, 26, and Nathan Foot, 27, who live in Ivyhouse Lane, are taking their son for his first consultation at the same clinic this week and hope to get a helmet as soon as possible.
Rachelle, who works at Headstart hairdressers in Park View, said: "I noticed something was wrong when Bobby was about two months old and mentioned it to the doctor, but I was told it would sort itself out.
"But when he was six months it had got worse and they agreed it was a problem."
She went on: "I wish there was more awareness of this condition. If I'd realised sooner there are techniques where you slightly alter the position of your baby's head while he or she is sleeping and that can apparently help avoid this."
Bobby has seen a Conquest consultant and could wait to go to Bristol to possibly have the helmet fitted on the NHS, but his parents don't want to risk waiting any longer.
Helped by family and friends, they are organising the Yard Sale to help pay towards the private costs, starting at 9am on Sunday at Frenchs in Drury Lane on the Ponswood Industrial Estate.
Bobby's uncle, Simon Foot, 21, is also going to endure a sponsored leg wax to raise more money during the event.
"If we make any extra money we plan to give it to Headstart4Babies who helped pay towards Jesse's treatment," said Rachelle.
She added: "We have already been touched by people's kindness with even our mechanic giving 50 when we went to pick our car up from its MOT!"
