Younger views sought on Lewes blueprint
Lewes Town Council still needs the support of the community to develop a Neighbourhood Plan for the county town.
The ball started rolling with a public open day at the Town Hall last month, which proved a success.
But the council feels that wider engagement with the community is still needed.
Very few young people attended which was a disappointment because it is the future of their town that the Neighbourhood Plan will address.
There will be another open ‘session’ at the All Saints Centre, Friars Walk, Lewes, on Tuesday (March 26) from 12noon until 6pm, which will hopefully mean that a different group of people can engage.
The afternoon will consist of a series of one-hour ‘bite-sized’ sessions – with a short presentation followed by an open forum repeated on the hour, each hour until 6pm which means visitors need only drop in for a short while.
Those that can’t make it to the event can view the slides from the South Downs National Park’s officers’ presentation on the Town Council’s website at www.lewes-tc.gov.uk where you can also give your views, volunteer to help, or download a form on which to register any comments.
A Neighbourhood Plan is an initiative introduced by the Government in 2011 which can set out a vision, aims, policies and proposals for future development of a neighbourhood.
They can only be adopted following independent examination and a 50 per cent ‘yes’ vote in a public referendum.
But if it is adopted, the Plan forms part of the statutory development framework for the area and has to be taken into account on planning issues.
