Major care facility plans for South Chailey to be considered by Lewes District Council

CONTROVERSIAL plans for a major new care facility at South Chailey will be considered by Lewes District Council on Wednesday, June 6.

The outline planning application for Gradwell Park has been submitted by Manifold Investments Ltd and Retirement Villages Ltd, which operates in the elderly care sector, on an open countryside site south of Gradwell End and The Martletts.

Outline permission is sought for a nursing and care home complex comprising of 24 EMI (elderly, mentally ill) rooms, 30 nursing rooms and 55 extra care flats, with associated facilities, landscaping and parking.

An application for a larger scheme was withdrawn prior to consideration in 2009 following a recommendation for refusal.
