A rapist has been jailed for 18 years after being convicted of a string of sexual offences he carried out against a girl over a seven-year period.
Trevor Platt, 44, a business owner, of Sheerwater Crescent, Hastings, was found guilty of 13 charges this week following a two-week trial at Hove Crown Court.
The hearing heard that he raped the victim, as well as touched her inappropriately.
Platt was found guilty at the end of the trial on Tuesday (August 12) before being handed the lengthy prison sentence by a judge.
The case first came to light when the businessman was arrested in March last year by police after they received a report that a girl under 18 had been abused by him over a seven-year period stretching from 2006 to 2013.
Police carried out an investigation before charging Platt with five offences of sexual touching, seven of rape, and one of causing pornography involving a child ahead of him being sent to the crown court in Hove to face a trial.
After Platt was jailed on Tuesday, detective constable Darren Jones, who investigated the case, praised the victim for coming forward so Platt could be brought to justice.
He said: “We have been supporting the victim since she bravely spoke out about the abuse she suffered by Platt.
“Platt has been found guilty of these offences and will spend a considerable time in prison.
“We urge anyone to come forward and speak to us about sexual abuse.
“We will take you seriously and do everything we can to support you and investigate. Please contact Sussex Police on 101 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.”
