A dedicated blood donor from Polegate, who saved up to 300 lives, was recognised by NHS Blood and Transplant for their loyalty and commitment at a ceremony on April 24.
The lifesaving efforts of 27 blood donors from across Sussex who collectively saved more than 8,100 lives were honoured with commemorative medals. Robert Fox, 72, from Polegate has been a long standing blood donor for more than 40 years. Robert said: “I started donating blood with a group of work mates, I just thought it was a nice thing to do for others. It doesn’t cost anything, and doesn’t hurt.”
Each blood donation can potentially save the lives of up to three people so if a donor has given blood 100 times they have potentially helped save the lives of up to 300 patients.
The guest speakers at the ceremony were Claire and Richard Baldwin, whose son Harvey died aged eight, after an 18 month battle with Leukaemia.
