A driver has suffered potentially life threatening injuries in a crash that has closed South Road in Hailsham this morning (Thursday January 3).

Emergency services were called to the scene at 5.08am this morning where a silver Volkswagen Polo left the road and hit a fence before overturning.

The 24-year-old man was freed from the car by firefighters and taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries.

The incident closed the A295, one of the main routes into Hailsham off the A22 and is likely to cause a significant amount of morning rush hour disruption. Emergency services are working as quickly as possible to investigate the collision and clear the road.

They thanked drivers and other users of the road for their patience while this is carried out.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Goldwick or e-mail collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
