CELEBRITY comes to Cooksbridge with a partnership between a top chef and co-owner of hot London nightspots.
Marco Pierre White has extended his East Sussex empire.
His latest venture into the county is The Rainbow Inn, Cooksbridge which now sports the famous Wheelers logo. He’s involved alongside Rainbow owner Tarquin Gorst who brings his long-held expertise to the business direct from running businesses in Mayfair and Kensington.
Gorst is a partner in The Hansom Cab, Kensington with Newick-born and Chailey-educated Piers Morgan.
He also runs The Punchbowl in Mayfair with film producer and Madonna ex Guy Ritchie.
Famous customers who pour through its doors include Clint Eastwood, Barbra Streisand, Paris Hilton, Cheryl Cole and Princess Beatrice. Freddie Flintoff celebrated his Ashes success there.
Sadly Marco could not attend the formal opening of The Rainbow last Friday.
But bars were packed with local residents who couldn’t quite believe that such a rare and exotic being had pitched up in their midst.
It is Marco’s second foray into county territory – he opened The Chequers in Maresfield last year.
The Rainbow has been given the Marco makeover with dark matt walls and oversized cartoons of the chef wielding several heavy instruments over the heads of nervous punters.
Wheelers of St James prided itself on serving Dover sole 30-plus ways and had a famous branch in Brighton, now sadly closed.
