Much-needed improvements to the village church and burial ground are being carried out by The Maresfield Conservation Group.
Cemetery walls are being repaired, tree roots removed and loose brickwork cleaned.
The Group and church are also discussing providing a memorial garden as space has almost run out for people to be buried there. Funds are being sought and the Group is appealing for contributions.
Members are also financing repairs to historic graves and helping maintain the church car park - open to village hall users and the general public.
The Group holds its fundraising Christmas Market on Saturday, December 6 from 11am-2pm in the village hall and the Christmas tree is lit later in the afternoon when the choir sings carols and mince pies and mulled wine is served.
Members also say there is much more they would like to do as ‘aesthetics give a feel-good factor and promote a sense of pride in where we live - it is worth the effort.’
