Meeting to focus on future of Lewes economy

Lewes town: From Surviving to Thriving is the subject of a meeting on Monday (October 21).

The focus on the future of the local economy will take place in the Council Chamber at Lewes Town Hall.

It will follow the annual meeting of the Lewes Town Partnership (7 for 7.30pm).

Matters up for discussion from 8pm will include the impact of cuts and austerity, jobs in the town, the development of North Street, manufacturing, shops, services and leisure, tourism, creative industries, the public sector and festivals.

Speakers will be Cllr James Page, the Leader of Lewes District Council, on how it sees the economic development of Lewes town in the context of the needs of the district as a whole; Nikki Plummer on the East Sussex Credit Union and why Lewes needs this support for people in Lewes facing economic hardship; and Cllr Susan Murray on the three Lewes Food Banks.

At the Partnership’s annual meeting, people are welcome to join members for a drink and the chance to network.

They are welcome to bring along any leaflets or information about their group to share.
