GREEN fingered Crowborough folk could find the waiting list for allotments in the town will be dramatically shortened.
At a meeting of the Town Council’s sport, recreation and cemetery committee last month it was agreed that Owlsbury Allotments could be extended and improved.
The council has put aside £10,000 from unspent funds to do the work. It was pointed out that there are 128 households with one plot, 54 with two and six households with three.
Members agreed that varying the size of plots should be considered at a future meeting with a view to considering double plots and better provision for compost bins.
Rabbit-proof fencing and water should also be provided.
As most plot holders have to drive to the site, any increase in the number of allotments will require a car park extension. This subject will be on the agenda of a meeting between the Town Clerk and Wealden District Council’s planners.
