MP welcomes another fall in jobless total

UNEMPLOYMENT in the Lewes constituency has fallen from the same time last year, and significantly from last month.

Figures released by the Office of National Statistics show that the number of unemployment claimants in June 2010 was 1,201, but this has dropped to 1,111 a year later, with a drop of 42 since May 2011.

Between May and June, this is a drop of 4 per cent in the last month alone, showing unemployment in the constituency is significantly less than the national average.

Lewes MP Norman Baker said: “Times continue to be tough and local people are understandably concerned about potential job losses in the public sector, so it is important that some reassurances can be provided that jobs are also being created and unemployment locally is continuing to drop.”
