‘Much can be achieved in Hailsham’ says new Mayor

LONG-STANDING Hailsham town councillor Jeff Bentley-Astor accepted the chain of office when he stepped into his new role as Town Mayor and Chairman of Hailsham Town Council at an Annual Meeting held on May 16.

He said: “I feel that at the outset of my period as Town Mayor and Chairman I should make absolutely clear my intention to work in the interest of all council tax payers, businesses and voluntary organisations in Hailsham.

“I am tremendously honoured to have been elected by the Council to Mayorship of the town, yet, despite the many privileges associated with the role, I am aware of the burden of responsibility which it brings as first citizen and representative of the town of Hailsham.

“Much can be achieved in Hailsham and the Council wanted somebody going forward as Town Mayor who could work with different groups of people to face the challenges we face. Hailsham is a special place, and I will work hard to ensure that with it remains a special place.

“In my capacity as Chairman of the Council, I will work hard for the good of this town and all who live and work here. I am at ease knowing that much can be achieved with the support of an active team of fellow town councillors and officers – and the support of the town’s people too.

“Over the years, I have witnessed how the Town Mayor and Chairman can be a unifying force for the town and I really hope that I can achieve this too during my term.

“Please be assured of my very best wishes.”
