MP Norman Baker launched his new EP in Lewes this week at Si’s Sounds in Station Street.
The four track CD Animal Countdown was released on Monday March 2 and is also available as download from itunes by Norman Baker and Friends.
The title track, Animal Countdown, highlights the plight of endangered species, something Norman cares deeply about. It comes with a video, released on YouTube on the same day.
All the songs are originals, co-written and sung by Norman.
The EP was recorded during the sessions for the new Reform Club album, does not feature any other members of the band.
The four tracks are all acoustic and deliberately sparse, with a nod to blues and jazz.
Norman said: “It is shocking, and heartbreaking, to witness the sharp decline in numbers of wonderful animals like tigers and elephants.
“There is a real danger they may become extinct in my lifetime, bar a few in zoos. The world needs to act now to stop this happening.”
President of the Born Free Foundation Will Travers added: “Norman is an example to us all. If we care about the plight of the natural world we can all make a difference by using our talents and a little bit of our time to show our compassion.”
The video was created by Mark Atkins and features footage from the Born Free Foundation. A contribution from the sales of the EP and track download will go to Born Free.
