New era dawns for worshippers with Trinity initiative in Lewes

A new era began for three Lewes churches yesterday (Thursday).

The Rev Steve Daughtery was licensed by the new Bishop of Lewes, Richard Jackson, as Priest in Charge of South Malling and St John sub Castro churches.

The plan is that Mr Daughtery will eventually become Vicar of the two churches while remaining Rector of Southover, where he has been since 2003. The service of installation took place at St John sub Castro Church.

Mr Daughtery’s installation is the first formal step in the ‘Trinity’ initiative – a vision to unify the congregations of all three locations into one multi-site church.

‘Project Trinity’ was made possible by the release of funds by the Chichester Diocese for the repair and refurbishment of St John sub Castro.

This will create a modern, multi-purpose space to enable the future ‘Trinity Church’ to better serve as a continuing place for worship and use by the wider community.

Work is underway to establish the most appropriate design to achieve these aims.

Elsewhere, Southover Church is running a pirate-themed club for youngsters. Aimed at five- to 11-year-olds it will operate from July 29 until August 1, between 9.30am and 1.15pm. Contact
