A NEWLY refurbished kitchen has been built at the Square Youth Café in Hailsham.
Young people from the Square Youth Café in Hailsham applied for £5,000 funding for the new kitchen through YouthBank UK, and various appliances and modern kitchen units were donated by Howden’s Joinery.
The money secured went towards purchasing brand new kitchen units, a worktop, new oven, fridge, freezer, flooring and even the kitchen sink.
The refurbishment will bring the kitchen up-to-date and meet current health, safety and hygiene requirements.
Youth project coordinator Andy Joyes said: “It is great to have received support from YouthBank UK. Funding this new kitchen is a perfect example that indicates the commitment of funding providers to the future of youth facilities in the area, helping to enhance the services and facilities ‘The Square’ offers to younger members of the community.”
“This refurbished kitchen is a huge improvement on the previous kitchen area used by staff and young people at ‘The Square’, and will give young people who use it more space in which they can develop their cookery skills as part of their activities.”
The Square Youth Café is free to enter for anyone between the ages of 11 and 17.
Afternoon opening times are 3.15-5pm (Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Years 7-9); evening opening times 7.15pm-9.30pm (Monday to Friday: Year 8+).
