The official opening of Howard Peace Park in Peacehaven on Sunday August 31 attracted an impressive 100 visitors.
Cllr Elayne Merry who was the driving force behind revamping the park was delighted with the turnout.
A picnic was held to celebrate the work carried out at the park, just off the A259.
Cllr Merry said: “When we considered the idea of a simple picnic we did not expect large numbers, rather we expected a few locals to venture down for a cake and a drink as they walked through the park.”
Peacehaven mayor Robert Robertson said: “I was very surprised to see so many at the event and they made me and the other councillors very welcome.”
Peacehaven Town Council organised the event and provided free cakes and drinks which had been donated by Sainsbury’s.
The council said one of the highlights of the afternoon was when the manager of the House Project Joy de Souza, managed to climb out of her sick bed, having recently been in a car accident, to attend the picnic and was keen to offer some funds to the project.
Amongst the improvements were a gravel pathway and a memorial bench.
