PLANS for seven office, light industrial and storage units in Lewes – together with a 70-space car park – have been approved.
The decision baffled Lewes Town Councillor Matt Kent, who argued passionately against the scheme at the meeting of Lewes District Council’s Planning Committee.
He argued that the development, on a 2.7 hectare site east of Malling Industrial Estate, Brooks Road, was inappropriate given its location and environmental impacts.
Afterwards, Cllr Kent said: “Residents in Malling believe there is no need for new commercial units as many in Lewes are already lying empty. There are tens of thousands of square feet of commercial and industrial accommodation available to rent.”
