A new Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) at the Conquest Hospital, costing around £400,000, has opened.

The new CDU, which has seven beds, replaces the previous smaller Clinical Decisions Unit which will now be converted to provide more cubical space in the A&E department as part of a phased programme to expand the department.

Ghassan Youssef, emergency medicine consultant, said: “We are pleased our new Clinical Decisions Unit opened before Christmas. It will help us to offer a better experience to patients while we assess them before they can go home or may need admission into the hospital. The resulting additional cubical space in A&E will help us to accommodate the increase in activity and improve our turnaround times for ambulances.”
