A new priest-in-charge has moved into a town centre church and welcomed 300 people through its doors in first few weeks.

Simon Larkin has taken over at Holy Trinity in Robertson Street.

He moved over from St Peter’s Church in Brighton last month with around 30 people.

He started the 11.15, a new Sunday service for the non-religious, people of all ages, but especially teenagers, young adults and children.

They have re-opened the church doors onto Robertson Street, which have been closed for around half a century.

Since launching on November 2, almost 300 people have come through the doors, with the first children and youth groups being held on a Sunday at Holy Trinity in more than 20 years.

The 11.15 is relaxed in style, with a café serving fresh coffee, tea and croissants, a live band, life-impacting talk and a children’s and youth programme.

Simon said: “We want people to know that this church is open. I have met many people who say they are non-religious however they really enjoy coming to this kind of service. They love coming to a church where they can find friendship, purpose and hope, as well as making a difference to others. We recently held our very first Safehaven, a group we are running for women who might be in vulnerable situations and who need a safe warm, loving environment, where they can be themselves.

“We hope to start up other activities which will benefit our community. Holy Trinity Hastings extends a warm welcome to anyone who wants to come to any of its Christmas Services.”
