IT’S all very well talking about the Olympic legacy - but how can ordinary, non-athletic people get involved? Now a new scheme has been set up in Heathfield which is suitable for every adult.

Run England is the recreational running project established by England Athletics to help get people out running and enjoying it’s many benefits.

Running coaches, Graham and Beverley Chapman teamed up with Freedom Leisure to launch Heathfield’s Run England group. This is for adults who want to start running with guidance, support and encouragement from experienced and qualified coaches. The sessions are an ideal environment for those who want to try running but are not ready for a running club, or for those who prefer to exercise in a less formal environment. They are also ideal for any beginner to start their journey towards a spring marathon or half marathon.

Graham said: “We thought this would be ideal for anyone who wants to get fit and stay in shape. It doesn’t matter what your fitness levels are at present or how much experience you have.”

At present a weekly session takes place at Heathfield Leisure Centre, Cade Street on Saturdays from 8.30-9.30am (a midweek, daytime session is also planned according to demand). Sessions focus on building fitness and developing technique so that people start off running on the right foot.

Just turn up on the day. Sessions cost just £4 each or £3 for Freedom Leisure members. You can visit: www.icanrun2.com, email: run@icanrun2.com or ring: 01435 868824.
