New Uckfield homes scheme could see more large houses

Because Uckfield has a high proportion of families with children than elsewhere in the District (30% against 20%) the mix of new homes on the Ridgewood development could include more bigger houses than first planned.

Although the proposal is still for 35 per cent of the 1,000 new homes to be affordable, changes in the market housing sector of the scheme could see 40 per cent as two bedroom, 30 per cent as four bedroom and 10 per cent as five bedroom homes - a proportion more than doubled at the top end of the room allocation. The council says the average household size in Uckfield is higher than in the other main Wealden towns. Changes to the Local Plan - such as these proposals - are currently under consultation.
