THE FIRST Christmas shopping extravaganza held in Newhaven was a great success, organsiers said.
The aim was to create a family centred, afternoon event which would attract visitors to the High Street.
It was staged by Newhaven Chamber of Commerce and Newhaven Community Development Association (NCDA).
Kathy Ward, of Newhaven Chamber of Commerce, said: “We believe this was a real success for Newhaven and we are already looking at how we can make next year even better.
“We have received lots of positive feedback from traders and shoppers alike.”
Hundreds of people turned up to enjoy the festive atmosphere on Saturday, December 11.
The main sponsor was Veolia Environmental Services, with money also coming from Newhaven Town Council and Alworths.
There was Christmas music and carols from Newhaven Community Choir and the Maestro players.
Santa gave out Christmas goodies and Max the magician awed the youngsters, while Christmas stalls sold gifts and decorations.
Sally Foote, of NCDA said: “It was wonderful to have such a warm festive feel in the town bringing the community together.”
Organisers thanked all the sponsors for making it possible.
