Newhaven play scheme faces closure due to falling demand

A charity which has provided play schemes for the past 40 years in Newhaven will close at the end of this year due to falling demand.

NIPPERS (Newhaven Play Project) offers play after school and during the school holidays at Shakespeare Hall.

A meeting will be held on Monday December 2, at 7pm, in the meeting room of Shakespeare Hall in Fort Road, Newhaven, to discuss whether some of the activities can continue.

Chairperson and volunteer with the organisation for 35 years, Pam Perry, said: “It is a shame, because children learn so much from playing together, indoors and out, but with fewer children attending the activities the organisation is no longer viable.”

Anyone wishing to attend the meeting is welcome.

NIPPERS encourages children and young people to develop to their full potential through providing play indoors and outdoors.

The charity has been fortunate to be located in a large open space with access to woods and the foreshore - so children can experience the outdoors knowing adults are nearby to keep them safe.
