THE ANNUAL Christmas Concert was staged by Newhaven Rotary Club for elderly residents in Telscombe Hall in Telscombe Cliffs on Saturday November 26.
This year a superb concert was given by a group from Seaford Barn Theatre.
Following an excellent tea provided by Rotary members and a raffle, the group returned to the stage for a sing song with audience participation.
The concert was attended by 105 elderly residents and president Henry Cade was pleased to welcome the mayor of Newhaven Steve Saunders and the mayoress, mayor of Telscombe John Livings and the mayor of Peacehaven Phil Howson and the mayoress.
The concert was also attended by the Young Mayor of Newhaven.
The three mayors sold raffle tickets and then the mayors of Telscombe and Peacehaven called out the winning numbers while the mayor of Newhaven distributed the prizes.
Rotary chair Kathleen Verrall said: “It was a superb afternoon with the elderly guests being greeted to a glass of sherry or two on arrival and given a take-home gift of a small bottle of wine for which Sainsbury’s in Newhaven is thanked for their contribution.
“Transport door to door was provided and the drivers of the community transport vehicles, who were not paid for their time, received bottles of wine from the Rotary Club in appreciation of their efforts.
“This is another example of the community working together to provide entertainment for those who are not easily able to get out and about.”
