A SCHOOLGIRL musician from Newhaven will compete in the regional final of a top national music competition.
If self taught guitarist and singer Morgan Smith, aged 11, gets through, she will be performing at the O2 in London. Mum Danielle said her daughter, who starts at Tideway School this term, loves music and is thrilled to be in the contest.
Open Mike UK is a huge competition, offering a recording contract and more than £50,000 in prize money.
Morgan will be taking part in the showcase regional finals at the Hove Centre on October 1 – and she needs your vote to secure her place on stage at the O2. Her talent will be scrutinised by judges from National Radio, BBC Introducing, regional press and record labels, as well as a live audience. Morgan said: “I felt really happy that I got through – I just love the way music sounds. I really like all types of music.”
Proud Mum Danielle added: “She doesn’t realise how good she is. All she does is play the guitar and she is self taught. When she asked for a guitar I thought this will be a five minute wonder. I would have been proud of her if she had just gone in there and then walked out again. Just for her to go in there on her own in front of that many people.” Morgan sang Adele and the The Man Who Can’t Be Moved by The Script. Tickets to see the show cost £8.
