The Newhaven Young People’s Youth Forum collected an award for voluntary youth service in East Sussex.

The group were presented with the accolade for an intensive review they carried out of Newhaven Community Development Association’s (NCDA) youth services in 2012.

They were praised for their achievements, hard work, dedication and passion they had shown in supporting in NCDA in its work with young people.

Sasha Grace, who has been a member of the forum for six years, said: “It was a real surprise winning the award.

“It made me feel good that we are getting recognition for all the hard work we do.”

The forum was given the SPARK award in April by the East Sussex Council for Voluntary Youth Service.

The SPARK Award 2013 is an award for an individual, team or organisation that the judging panel believes has earned special recognition.

Forum members are aged 11-18 and meet to review youth services, with a focus ensuring the needs and wants of local young people are being met by NCDA.

Youth development worker Kay Watts said: “The NCDA youth team are extremely proud of forum members and believe that we couldn’t fulfil our job properly without them.”
