RESIDENTS in Hailsham have been asked to nominate outstanding young people for the 2012 John Britton Youth Community Award.
The award rewards young people who have ‘gone the extra mile’ in their local community.
Andy Joyes, youth project coordinator for Hailsham Town Council, said the award is run each year to recognise selfless youngsters who give up their own time to support individuals or projects with little or no reward for themselves.
He added: “Perhaps they might have achieved great things relating to sports activities, excelled at school, demonstrated good leadership abilities or done some great voluntary work in the community during the past year.
“I encourage people nominate a young person who they feel has made their mark in the community and accomplished a great deal with such endeavours.”
The awards have been organised by Hailsham Community College (HCC) and its partners, Targeted Youth Support (TYS) and The Square Youth Café.
Nominees must be residents of Hailsham and be currently enrolled in years seven to sixth form.
Entrants must be submitted to Hailsham Community College, Battle Road, Hailsham by 4pm on June 1 2012. Nomination forms are available at Hailsham Community College (Battle Road) or the Town Council offices (Market Street). Or telephone 841468 or 841702 to have a form sent to you.
The winner will be presented with a trophy, inscribed with their name, at the end of year celebration assembly and an inscribed shield on the last day of term at HCC.
