Newhaven’s links with Vietnam began when the Vietnamese embassy picked up on a story published in the Sussex Express about Ho Chi Minh having worked as a pastry chef on Newhaven ferry before his rise to power.
Officials from the Vietnamese Embassy got in touch with Newhaven Town Council, presented them with a three foot high statue of Ho Chi Minh and two framed photos.
A special foundation town commemorates Ho Chi Minh’s links with the town.
The Sussex Express offices even had a visit from Vietnamese Embassy staff and we have a glass ornament from them to commemorate their visit.
