A meeting at Uckfield Civic Centre on September 2 will give people the chance to find out how traffic flow will be affected when works start on the new station car park.
This follows the decision to create a new one-way system from the end of next month. And it will enable contractors and equipment to access the site to the south of New Town Road. The area involved is the stretch of carriageway from the station up to Framfield Road and to the Bell Lane traffic lights.
East Sussex County Council has invited local residents and businesses to find out how they will be able to get to their homes or shops while the work is being carried out.
Detailed plans for the construction of the 174 space car park were approved last month and the scheme is part of a comprehensive revision of traffic arrangements for the whole of Uckfield. These will involve improvements to the Luxford car park (which will accommodate cars for nine hours, preventing it being blocked by commuters who will use the railway car park).
Bays along the High Street will be reduced and there will be wider pavements and loading bays for vehicles delivering to businesses.
The next phase of works - to the High Street itself between Bell Lane and Church Street - will take place in 2015.
The scheme has been largely welcomed, although some High Street businesses are concerned the reduction in parking bays might discourage shoppers.
