Police are appealing for witnesses after a man and a woman were attacked while outside a Hailsham supermarket on Sunday afternoon (January 24).

The victims, a 17-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman were walking between North Street and the High Street with friends at around 4pm when the assault took place.

As they crossed the service road behind the Asda supermarket they were attacked by a man who struck them both in the face.

The suspect is described as a large black man, aged 30-35, 6ft to 6ft 4in tall with short dark hair. He was wearing dark clothing.

PC Kevin Tyler, of the Wealden Neighbourhood Response Team, said, “We are keen to locate witnesses to this incident as both victims were left extremely shocked. It is believed several passers-by may have seen the assault take place.”
