An ambulance driver deliberately blocked his vehicle across the path of a car being pursued by police.
The drama unfolded this afternoon close to the entrance to the Conquest Hospital.
A marked police car spotted a Jaguar pass it at 3.45pm. It failed to stop on Rye Road and officers followed the car along The Ridge and into the Conquest Hospital grounds.
The driver then rammed the patrol car with his vehicle and attempted to drive away but was stopped by an ambulance whose driver deliberately blocked him in.
Neither the two officers in the patrol car, the ambulance driver nor the car driver were injured.
A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and failing to stop. He is currently being questioned in custody.
PC Richard Trundle said: “The ambulance driver did exactly the right thing and stopped the car from escaping.
“There were lots of people in the area and we would like to speak to them and to anyone who saw the pursuit between Guestling and the hospital.”
