The Chiddingly house where Peter Pan author J M Barrie made his home has been put up for sale.
Stone Hill House, which has also been home to rock star Keith Emerson, is marketed at £2.25m.
The house, which is 600 years old, is Grade II listed and described as Sussex’s ‘perfect timber-framed house’.
It boasts a swimming pool, lake, tennis court, barn and landscaped gardens and a paddock in around five acres of land.
It also has a two bedroom 18th century cottage nestled in its grounds.
Mr Barrie moved into the house around 15 years after writing Peter Pan in 1921.
He lived in the building until 1934 and died three years after he moved out.
Its next famous occupant, Mr Emerson, moved in during the 1970s.
The house was also home to an artist and a noted art connoisseur.
The home was said to inspire its occupants because of the sprawling lake at the front of the house and the beautiful countryside surroundings.
Savills, an estate agent based in Haywards Heath, is managing the property.
The house is named after the hill it stands on which was given its name because of a stone memorial which once stood there.
It has a wealth of history within its walls and was even the subject of an article by Viscountess Wolseley where it featured in her series on Historic Houses in Sussex.
The property would have once been one large hall but it was divided in Tudor times to form several rooms with fireplaces and bedrooms added.
It formed part of the Sackville family estate and the earliest records show it was lived in by the Elphick family.
The Elphicks paid taxes to Charles II and were iron founders.
To this day, the remains of the ironworks, the mill pond and the mill can be seen at the bottom of the hill.
The house has been praised by architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner, who described it as the perfect timber framed Sussex house.
The house looks over wooded countryside .
Savills are currently takingviewings of the property.
