Champion Ploughman at the 83rd Laughton and District Agricultural Society’s 83rd Ploughing Match was Mark Leadbetter.

He was presented with the Joseph Harper Trophy, and also collected the Jack Pile Memorial Trophy.

Mark, from Hurstpierpoint, used a David Brown 780 tractor and a Ransomes TS 54 plough in the event at Berwick Court Farm, Berwick.

The reserve Champion Ploughman was Martin Clark, from Vines Cross, Heathfield.

In the ever-popular family section, the Sir Richard Boughey Trophy was won by Pat Elliott, the Cookery Cup by Georgina Carter and the Vegetable Cup vy Gussie Harmer.

Carole Ware’s tomatoes were the best in show and the Flower Arranging Trophy was won by Mary Masters with an arrangement suitable for a Christening.

Younger members Jessica Best, William Page, Lily Craig, Tom Hecks and Sam Crawford were all winners of either mugs or trophies.

Later, the annual dinner at Glyndebourne saw the Golden Jubilee Trophy (farmers over 501 acres) awarded to Jeremy Courtney, from East Hoathly, and the Yeoman Trophy (under 500 acres) to Richard and Susie Monnington, of Lewes.
