POLEGATE folk invaded Eastbourne’s Olympic torch run to support the wife of a former town Mayor.

Sue Barber, wife of the former Mayor of Polegate, Steve Barber, spoke about her Olympic run on ITV’s Daybreak programme yesterday, July 17.

Mrs Barber’s son made a surprise visit from Australia to support her along with other family.

The Olympic torch was held by Mrs Barber as the first carrier from King’s Drive at 3.18pm.

First Polegate Scouts cheered for her - Mrs Barber has been the Beaver Leader for the past 20 years.

Teachers and pupils from Polegate School, where Mrs Barber is a teaching assistant, have also been supporting her.

The current Mayor of Polegate, Cllr Malcolm Cunningham, was also present along with town stalwart Jayne Bigsby.
