One hundred young trees have been stolen from alongside the new Lewes to Ringmer cycle way.

The trees, mostly hornbeam, rowan and field maples, were dug up in two batches on Monday or Tuesday night last week (March 23/24) and on Sunday (March 29).

Landscapers working for East Sussex County Council believe that they have been specifically targeted from among the nine different species that are being planted.

Anyone who has witnessed suspicious activity along the route, which runs alongside the B2192, or is offered or sees similar trees for sale in unusual circumstances, is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting serial 294 of 30/03.
