A 24-year-old Barcombe man driving a silver Mazda 2 saloon south on the A26 had collided with a northbound white Audi A4, driven by a 46-year-old Haywards Heath woman.

The man was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious head injuries.

The woman and her two passengers, a woman aged 56 and a man aged 22, were treated at the same hospital for minor injuries.
